Dream Catcher Bake Shop Owner Discusses Business in Martin

Posted

Dream Catcher Bake Shop is a new local bake shop owned by Brittany Cameron, and serves Martin as well as surrounding cities. Cameron started the bake shop three and a half years ago when she lived in North Carolina when she was in between jobs. She says that her mother taught her how to make pound cakes when she was a teenager.

Before selling pound cakes, she made them and gave them out to family and friends as samples, and after receiving positive feedback, she decided to start selling them. In between making these cakes, Cameron found a new job and shortly after, a co worker had asked if she could make a custom cake.

“She asked for a two-tier custom cake with a wine bottle in the middle with rose decorations, and for some odd reason, I said, ‘yes!’” Cameron said.

Shortly after making this custom cake and posting about her pound cakes on Facebook, she received a message from a previous co worker who asked what kind of flavors she offered.

“She made me a menu and called it, “Brittany’s”, and it had a whole list of pound cakes on it,” Cameron said.

After going back and forth with names, the business was officially called Brittany’s Bundts and More in North Carolina, and once she moved to Martin, she rebranded to Dream Catcher Bake Shop. Cameron says that she loves dream catchers and that she has always been a dreamer and that it translated to the business.

“My goal in the shop is to let someone escape from the stresses in the world, even if it’s two minutes where you’re eating a cupcake,” she said.

Cameron did not go to culinary school, but she wanted to start baking. She says that her mother told her that if she could not make something from scratch, do not do it.. Once she was able to perfect making things from scratch, she opened up her shop. Even though she started with bundt cakes, she now has expanded her menu and offers many baked desserts such as custom cakes, regular layer cakes, homemade and gourmet cookies, pies, cake jars and rice krispy treats.

“I have so many things because I started off trying so many things and then I kinda found what I liked,” Cameron said.

Dream Catcher Bake Shop is currently at an home bake shop that allows for the items to be picked up. Cameron says that she would love to have an actual shop soon as well as multiple pick up spots for customers.

“I want to be able to reach out to this side of the community. I want to get reestablished here,” Cameron said.

Dream Catcher Bake Shop can be found on multiple social medias as well as their website, www.DreamCatchBakes.com. They can also be found attending the Martin Farmer’s Market on Saturdays as a vendor.
