The Dixie Celebrates Volunteer Ushers at Annual Luncheon and Award Ceremony

The Dixie Carter Performing Arts Center proudly hosted its Annual Volunteer Usher Luncheon and Award Ceremony on August 21, celebrating the invaluable contributions of its dedicated volunteer ushers. The event, held to honor the individuals who have played a crucial role in the center's success, showcased the outstanding commitment of this vital team.

As the first face many patrons encounter, volunteer ushers at The Dixie are instrumental in setting a welcoming tone and enhancing the overall experience for visitors. Their dedication not only supports the staff but also strengthens the community’s connection to the arts.

“We are incredibly grateful for the time and effort each of you has devoted over the past season,” said Angela DeMaris, Executive Director of The Dixie. “Your role is essential in making every event a memorable experience, and we truly could not have successfully finished our 18th season without your unwavering support. A heartfelt thank you to all our ushers!”

The ceremony included special acknowledgments and awards for exemplary service. The following ushers were honored for their longstanding commitment:

  • 10+ Years of Service: Denise Coleman, Bailey Cooper, Wanda Crossett, Ann Noles, June Perrit, Melissa Powell, Amy Rangnow, Judy Roberts, Brenda Smith, and Karen Spotnagle.
  • 15+ Years of Service: Paula Atkins, Nancy Blaylock, Barbara Clifton, Brooke Hodges, Geneva Johnson, David Rhodes, Linda Wallace, Terry Warren, Natelle Waugh and Bill Gwaltney.

Additionally, The Dixie announced the retirement of two esteemed ushers:

  • Gaylon Rich: A pioneer in the usher program with extensive experience across multiple venues, Gaylon has been a cherished member of the team, known for his deep love of country music and engaging personality.
  • Joel Williams: Known fondly as "The Blind Man," Joel brought a unique spirit and enthusiasm to his role, making a significant impact in his short time with The Dixie with over 67 hours of volunteer time..

The awards ceremony recognized several individuals for their exceptional contributions:

  • The Carter-Holbrook Award for Excellence in Organizational Leadership of the Arts: DeeAnn Roome, for her outstanding service and enthusiasm.
  • The Mayor’s Award for Good Humor and Patience in the Public Service of the Arts: Rick Jahnke, celebrated for his grace under pressure and dedication.
  • The Brooke S. Hodges Award for Excellence in Providing a Positive Patron Experience: Jeannie Jahnke, for her remarkable ability to connect with patrons and create a positive atmosphere.
  • Volunteer of the Year Award for Excellence in Volunteer Leadership of the Arts: Maria Hunt, honored for her outstanding volunteer spirit and vibrant personality.

The Dixie extends its deepest appreciation to all its volunteers, whose dedication has collectively contributed over 40,000 volunteer hours across 18 seasons.
