Westview High School senior Chloe Peevyhouse made the crucial save and Harper Jones booted the game-winning goal during the sixth round of penalty kicks as the Lady Chargers captured a 3-2, state-quarterfinal soccer victory over Chattanooga School of Arts and Sciences Wednesday afternoon.

The game was played at Girls Preparatory School's soccer facility in Chattanooga.

During penalty kicks, both teams were able match each other, scoring five goals apiece. In the sixth round of PKs, Peevyhouse stoned CSAS's Chloe Benson, allowing Jones an opportunity to send the Lady Chargers into the state semifinals.

Jones was equal to the task, scooting her shot past CSAS goal Gemma Nichols for the victory.

The Lady Chargers broke a historic scoring drought and pushed through for the 3-2 victory. The Lady Chargers held a 1-0 lead at intermission, after freshman Ashley Brent's long-distance, seeing-eyed rocket, but quickly fell behind 2-1 in the second half.

Brent secured the equalizer with her goal from 40 yards out with under five minutes to play in regulation. Regulation ended with the two teams tied at 2.

After two fruitless, 10-minute overtime halves, the two teams went to penalty kicks.

CSAS had first shot, and Anna Chin netted the first goal for a 1-0 PK lead. Westview's Chanler Spendlove rang the bell when her shot went past Nichols. Ella Hurst scored for CSAS in the second round. She was matched by Hayden Markowski to tie the session at 2-2.

Cheyenne Frye of CSAS and Mattie Horton each scored to knot the PK round at 3. Ziva Phillips and Westview's Brent kept things going with their goals. The teams were deadlocked at 4. Stella Murry of the Lady Patriots scored for a 5-4 lead, which put some pressure on Westview's Marianne Moore, who stepped up in a pressure situation. The two teams were locked up at five goals apiece. Whoever had the advantage after this round would be crowned a winner.

That's when Peevyhouse smothered CSAS's Benson's shot and Jones beat Nichols for the victory.

Westview outshot CSAS 20-16, but the Lady Patriots had 10 shots on goal to Westview's eight. Peevyhouse had eight saves for Westview and Nichols had six for the Lady Patriots. CSAS was whistled for 11 fouls while the Lady Chargers were called for seven. Westview had six corner kicks to CSAS's four.

The Lady Chargers improve to 17-1 with the victory. CSAS fell to 12-10-3.

MERROL HYDE 2, WESTVIEW 0 at Chattanooga

In semifinal action, Merrol Hyde, a recent soccer power in Tennessee, outshot Westview 31-0 and claimed a state semifinal victory at Girls' Preparatory School Friday afternoon.

Isabella Henderson broke open a scoreless deadlock in the 37th minute of the first half for a 1-0 lead. In the 66th minute, Gabriella Cruz put the game out of reach with her goal.

Westview goalkeeper Chloe Peevyhouse saved eight shots.

Merrol Hyde had 10 corner kicks to Westview's 1 and both teams were whistled for eight fouls.

The Lady Chargers end the season with 17-2 mark.

Merrol Hyde, 18-5, advanced Saturday morning to face Liberty Creek in the Class A state championship game. Liberty Creek was crowned the state champion in Division I, Class A.
