Dresden Man Sentenced to 40 Years for Rape of a Child

A Dresden man has been sentenced to 40 years for multiple counts of Rape of a Child.

On March 21 Dresden Police Department Ptl Jared Willcutt conducted an interview with 33-year-old Mark Anthony Sanders who was advised of his Miranda rights but waved them.

Sanders admitted to raping a juvenile approximately 25 times when the juvenile was 12 years old and another 25 times when the juvenile was 13 years old, with the most recent being between March 16 and March 17.

Sanders was charged with 5 counts of Rape of a Child, Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child, two counts of Rape and one count of Incest. Sanders was later indicted and the case was bound over to the Weakley County Grand Jury.

Sanders was represented by Martin Dunn.

During Sander’s sentencing on Monday, June 24 the charge of incest was dismissed. The five counts of Rape of a Child were merged with the count of Continuous Rape of a Child for a total of 40 years in the Tennessee Department of Corrections. Jail time credit was given for the dates of March 21 – June 20. For the Charge of Rape (2 Counts) Sanders was sentenced to 20 years to run concurrent with the other charges.

Sanders will have to serve 100% of his sentence.
