On Monday, August 19, Dale Hutcherson was officially sworn in as the new Mayor of Weakley County. Hutcherson filed his resignation as a city of Dresden alderman just a few days prior:

Serving the people of Dresden as an alderman has been one of my most treasured experiences in public service, and I am forever grateful for the opportunity to serve my hometown. To the Mayor, Board of Alderman, department of leadership, city of Dresden employees, and the citizens of Dresden, it has been my honor and privilege to serve alongside you—and to serve you—over the last two years.

When I took office, I had three main goals in mind: to assist in the unification, preservation and rebuilding of our town, to serve the people of Dresden through servant leadership and with a volunteer heart and to leave our home in better shape each and every day.

It is with extreme gratitude to the Board of Mayor and Alderman, department leadership, city of Dresden employees, and citizens throughout Dresden that I can confidently say that we have reached new heights and are well on our way to continued prosperity. I am also happy to state that our city is in good hands as we move onward and upward into the future.

In closing, I am thankful to God for granting me the ability and opportunity to serve this community, and I pray that He will continue to bless the city of Dresden with success, prosperity and blessings in accordance with His Will as well continue to move our community forward together.

The Dresden Board of Mayor and Alderman held a special called meeting the same day announcing a vacancy seat for the alderman position. This position will be placed on the November 5, 2024 ballot to elect an alderman to complete the unexpired term. A special petition period is now open for candidates to fill this vacancy with a qualifying deadline of Wednesday, September 11, 2024, 12:00 Noon.

Hutcherson was sworn in by General Sessions Judeg Tommy Moore in front of a large number of people from the county.

“I've never prepared a speech, and to me, if I can't speak from the heart, I shouldn't be speaking on it at all, but I want you to know this. I love this county. I love every single thing about it. I love what makes this county great. I love the people. I love the businesses. I love the services we provide. I love how much of an asset each and every one of you are to this place and I love the fact that I get to work hand in hand to make this place greater and greater and greater in the years to come, and I hope and pray I continue to get that chance, and that I make it. I promise you this, I'm going to serve you and I'm going to do everything I can to make this place the greatest county in this state. Thank you so much for being here, thank you so much and thank God for giving me the opportunity.” Hutcherson stated.
