The Weakley County School Board is partnering with the district’s high schools to launch the first Student Advisory Panel: a panel made up of selected students from each high school who will provide insights and feedback on the student experience.
The Student Advisory Panel was formed through a competitive application process in which students were ultimately selected by their principals. One junior and one senior were selected from each high school: Cayden Lowry and Abigail Kibbler from Dresden High School, Owen Taylor and Josie Muzzall from Gleason School, Lily Boyd and Aiden Jones from Greenfield School, and Akeish Chua and Jack Mantooth from Westview High School.
At the panel's kickoff meeting, students met with the school board to learn about the board’s functions, get to know its members, and discuss the feedback and insight that the board hopes to gain from the panel.
Weakley County School Board Chairman Josh Moore shared that he hopes the program will be a collaborative effort between students and the board. “This panel will allow us to hear directly from students about what’s working and what needs to be improved in our schools,” Moore said. “By working together, we hope to make decisions that better serve all students in the district.”
Director of Schools Jeff Cupples added, “We’re excited to launch this initiative aimed at connecting with our students and better understanding their needs and concerns. We appreciate the school board’s commitment to involving them in the decision-making process and look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have on our schools and community.”
The Student Advisory Panel is a step forward in ensuring that students have a seat at the table when it comes to decisions about their education, as well as learning more about the process of decision-making at the district level.
