A Martin man is facing a charge of aggravated cruelty to animals after a caller complained of deceased dog underneath his shed.

On July 16 Patrolman Virakwonn Kong with the Martin Police Department was dispatched to a residence in Martin in reference to an animal complaint.

Upon his arrival, Kong was approached by the complainant who stated that there was a deceased dog underneath a white shed and that she and surrounding neighbors had to feed and water the dog because the owner neglected it on a daily basis.

Kong made contact with 37-year-old Robert Coleman and asked him about the dogs whereabouts. Coleman stated that he hadn’t seen the dog for two days and had no clue where it was at.

While on Coleman’s porch, Kong noticed that the dog’s bowls had neither food nor water. It was also discovered that Coleman had an active warrant out for his arrest for violation of probation.

Coleman was taken into custody and charged with aggravated cruelty to animals. Coleman’s preliminary hearing will be July 24 at 8:30 a.m. in Judge Tommy Moore’s General Sessions court.
