James M. Griffin, Jr. 1953 – 2025

James M. Griffin, Jr., a dedicated husband, father, Marine, and community supporter, passed away on January 5, 2025, in Melbourne, FL. Born on August 11, 1953, in New Orleans, LA, James was the beloved son of Doris [Louise] (Colleur) and James M. Griffin, Sr. (predeceased). He grew up in Dresden, TN, surrounded by the love and guidance of many aunts, uncles, and grandparents.

James proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on September 16, 1970, at Parris Island, SC. Over the course of a distinguished 30-year career, he rose through the ranks to retire as a Lieutenant Colonel on October 1, 2000. His service to the nation was marked by dedication, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to the values of the Corps.

Following his military career, James continued to serve the defense community as a Program Manager supporting the Naval Air Station Command (NAVAIR). He later retired from Deloitte in October 2014, leaving a legacy of professionalism and excellence.

James was deeply committed to giving back to his community. He supported numerous organizations, including Special Olympics, SOLE, Christmas in April, the Marine Corps Mustang Association, Inc., the Masons, and the Marine Corps Aviation Association. His contributions to these groups exemplified his generosity and passion for making a difference.

James is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, Susan Griffin; his four loving daughters, Lisa Zmijewski, Erika Jamieson, Melissa Fritsch, and Jessika Griffin; his sister Ramona McLeod; his brother Thomas Colleur; and 10 cherished grandchildren. His family and friends will remember him as a source of strength, wisdom, and love.

A celebration of James's remarkable life will be held at Taylor Funeral Home & Crematorium on Thursday, 16 January 2025 at 2 o’clock followed by the Repass at the family.
