District Celebrates January 2025 Feature Teachers

Weakley County Schools is thrilled to announce the “Feature Teachers” for January 2025! These educators have earned the spotlight for their incredible dedication to students and their commitment to the district’s core values of purpose, connection, and growth.

This month we honor Pam Sliger from Martin Elementary and Primary School for the Pre-K through 5th grade band and Chris Leo from Greenfield School for the 6th through 12th grade band. These educators were chosen for their above-and-beyond efforts to inspire, teach, and make a difference every day.

As part of their recognition, selected teachers are surprised with resounding applause and granted the honor of temporarily holding the towering 6-foot "Feature Teacher" trophy for one month. Mirroring the tradition of championship belts in sports, the concept symbolizes teachers’ exceptional contributions to education as they pass the torch to the next deserving recipient.

The “Feature Teacher” initiative was created to spotlight the incredible educators who make our schools a better place for our students to learn and grow. Each month, principals nominate outstanding teachers, and two winners are chosen—one from the Pre-K through 5th-grade band and one from the 6th through 12th-grade band.

Martin Elementary School Principal Patresa Rogers praises Sliger’s dedication to instilling a newfound appreciation for music in her students.

“Mrs. Pam is a music teacher to the bone. Her work in bringing a new curriculum to our county is invaluable. Not only has she worked with our choir students weekly to strengthen their skills, allowing them to perform with the UTM Treble Honor Choir, she has also started an area wide chorus that will perform in Jackson. It’s amazing how she has helped students find their niche in the world. We are so fortunate to have her skills right here in Weakley County,” said Rogers.

Jamie Doster, Principal of Greenfield School, praised Chris Leo’s skill at encouraging connection within the classroom.

“Chris Leo actively engages his students’ connection skills through interactive activities during government class. One of his standout methods is the mock Presidential Re-Election, where students participate in campaigning for a former President's re-election. He encourages his students to visit other classrooms and make connections with other students while campaigning. This approach helps students connect with their peers and faculty members, fostering a deeper understanding of the electoral process and enhancing their communication skills,” said Doster.

The honored teachers will enjoy well-deserved bragging rights and be prominently featured in stories within the district and on social media platforms. These heartfelt tributes will showcase their inspiring work and serve as a source of connection for educators across Weakley County.

Betsi Foster, Assistant Director of Schools, shared her praise for this month’s teachers, "Teachers like Chris Leo and Pam Sliger are the foundation of our district’s success. They are great examples of how hands-on teaching methods and music education not only inspire students but also prepare them with skills and experiences that will last a lifetime. Their ability to build connections, encourage creativity, and boost students’ confidence reflects their exceptional talent and true passion for teaching. We are incredibly grateful to have educators like them in our district.” Foster said.

Weakley County Schools is proud to be a champion in support of outstanding educators. Look for the next “Feature Teacher” in February.
